Lisu Lodge - Chiang Mai
Exotissimo Travel was established in 1993 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. We are now one of the longest established inbound tour operators in Indochina, Myanmar and Thailand and one of the best known.
Who should go?
This award-winning eco-lodge is ideal for travelers who are interested in responsible and community-based tourism. Set on the green hills of Chiang Mai, the guesthouses are built based on a traditional Lisu dwelling with thatched roofs, bamboo walls and floor mats. Each unit incorporates western comforts such as private bathrooms and comfortable beds. The rustic outpost is an ideal base for soft adventure and trekking in this exotic region, where the unique Lisu, Lahu and Aka hill tribes make their homes.
When to go?
The best time to visit Chiang Mai is between the months of November to February when northern Thailand experiences a dry and cool season. From February, the temperatures steadily rise and sometimes peak at 36ºC in April. From May through September, the monsoon season brings almost daily torrential rains.
Where is it?
Located 50 kilometers north of Chiang Mai, Lisu Lodge is approximately an hour's drive from the city center. The lodge provides pick ups from either the airport or hotels in Chiang Mai on a private vehicle.
What's not to be missed?
Trek on an elephant through bamboo forests and rivers. Visit a remote Akha or Lisu village. Ride a mountain bike through the country roads and winding mountain lanes. Sail down a river on a bamboo or rubber raft. Dine on a northern Thai feast in the open veranda. Learn hill tribe dances from Lisu villages.
What's cooking?
Meal times allow unique insights into the Lisu hill tribe culture. Guests seat comfortably on plump cushions around a low table on which delectable Northern Thai dishes are arranged. While savoring the scrumptious spread, the Lisu villagers put up a graceful and captivating show of traditional dances.
Acquaint yourself with the pristine north in our Lanna Shan Journey Thailand tour where you will breathe in all the historical and cultural aspects that give the area its charm. Witness ancient temples and learn about their history while exploring the majestic landscape by bamboo raft and elephant ride. You will also get a chance to interact with the local hill tribes who reside in this area.
The Real Lanna Experience from Exotissimo is a great Thailand tour for second time visitors who like to blend in sightseeing and knowledge with outdoor activities. You will learn from the local Tai Yuan people themselves about the region and learn to prepare some Thai dishes. We will also let you cruise down the Mae Ping River on a scorpion boat, ride an elephant, whitewater raft, and cycle through the beautiful Thai terrain and historical sites.
The Rachamankha is more a treasury of old Lanna culture than simply a hotel. Modeled after the chapel of one of Thailand's most beautiful temples, this single-storey inn is a neat assemblage of white plaster buildings capped by terracotta roofs.
