Isaan Insight - 9 Days / 8 Nights

Day 1 - Bangkok - Korat (L,D)

Today, we will depart from Bangkok and head towards the northeastern provinces of Isaan. En route to Korat, explore and bear testimony to the stunning Khmer architectural flavors expressed by Phi Mai Khmer Temple Complex, which was laid out in the same concentric styles as Angkor Wat and lie on the 'Royal Road' leading to the ancient Khmer kingdom. Pay a visit to Ban Dan Kwian and witness the traditional techniques of crafting earthernware.

Overnight in Korat.

Day 2 - Korat - Buriram - Surin (B,L,D)

This morning drive to Phanom Run Historical Park to explore some of the most impressive Khmer ruins in the region. This visit will provide you with deeper understanding of the blend of cultures in Isaan province. Continue to craft villages to witness the intricate processes of crafting silks and golden brocades and onwards to an elephant village for a first hand encounter with these magnificent animals.

Day 3 - Surin - Ubon Ratchathani - Khong Jiam (B,L,D)

Today drive eastwards from Surin through Ubon Ratchathani to the border town of Khong Jiam. En route, stop at local silk and silversmith villages, discover Khmer temples in Sikhoraphum Sanctuary and learn about the ancient craft of bronze ware at a small village. One of today's highlights is the National Museum in Ubon Ratchathani where the rich history of Thailand is on display in a series of incredible exhibits. Arrive late this afternoon at the easternmost district of Thailand for your stay in Khong Jiam, a town on the Mekong and Mun Rivers.

Day 4 - Khong Jiam - Pha Taem - Mekong - Khong Jiam (B,D)

At Pha Taem Historical Park, scrutinize the pre-historic cave paintings depicting the daily scenes of the early humans as you listen to the narrations provided by the Fine Arts Department. Boarding the boat at Khong Jiam, leisurely cruise on a local boat along Mekong River before exploring Kaeng Tana, a rocky cataract that straddles the Moon River, forming breathtaking waterfalls.

Day 5 - Khong Jiam - Nakhon Phanom (B,L,D)

Following breakfast, proceed north along a scenic road by the Mekong River to Mukhdhan. At Ban Nong Hoi Yai in the Korat Plateau, gain an insight into the traditional Lao-Isaan lifestyle as you witness and partake in the weaving process with the villagers. Stop at the Khmer-style monument of Phra That Phanom before reaching Nakhon Phanom for your overnight stay.

Day 6 - Nakhon Phanom - Nong Khai (B,L,D)

Travel to the village of Najok where Ho Chi Minh resided for seven years. Tour his former house and stroll through this unique village whose residents are of Vietnamese origin. This afternoon discover the archeological site of Ban Chiang Village where prehistoric fossils and ruins have been unearthed by experts. Continue to Wang Nam Mok Homestay, a special experience sure to be a highlight of your travels. Interact with the villagers and your host family as you play games, prepare dinner and partake in a special 'baci' ceremony before settling in for a good nights rest.

Day 7 - Nong Khai - Loei - Dan Sai (B,L,D)

Join your host family in the morning alms procession followed by a trek to Nam Mok waterfall. After a picnic lunch, drive to Loei. En route to Loei, sail slowly along the Mekong River at Chiang Khan and visit charming riverside towns. Arrive in Loei late this afternoon and enjoy a stroll around the quiet town center.

Day 8 - Dan Sai (B,L,D)

Start the morning with a visit to the celebrated Phra Thai Si Songrak and the nearby hilltop Wat Neramit. Continue to Phu Luang National Park to admire the pristine nature and stunning views. After lunch, stop at the colorful Ban Nong Bong Plant market on your way to Chateau de Loei Winery where you can sample the wines and tour the vineyard.

Day 9 - Dan Sai - Phitsanulok - Bangkok (B)

Bangkok to Isaan - 10 Days / 9 Nights - itinerary

Leaving Dan Sai, we will drive through the spectacular mountain scenery en route to Phitsanulok. One of the principal attractions of this province is Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, an imposing monastery that houses the famous and revered Buddha image of Phra Buddha Chinnarat. Transfer to Phitsanulok Airport for your return flight to Bangkok.
