Explore Thailand's past and present capitals on a river cruise that takes you from lively Bangkok to ancient Ayuthaya and beyond. You'll experience this majestic journey on the Manohra Song, a 100-year-old former rice barge that's been coverted into a deluxe river cruiser featuring four air-conditioned staterooms with queen-size beds, in-suite bathrooms, a large living and dining area with bar, plus a sun-deck lounging area. Once aboard this fantastic vessel, you'll understand why people often refer to it as "The Orient Express of the River."
The Manohra Song will travel along the Chao Phraya River, known as the "River of Kings" and home to friendly local citizens and a seemingly never-ending series of sites including modern skyscrapers, important bridges, temples, various boats, houses, and palaces. This major Thai river connects Bangkok to Ayuthaya and the trip promises to be a fascinating one.
Highlights of your journey will include stops at many important Thai temples. In Bangkok, you'll see Wat Arun, the famous "Temple of the Dawn" that dates back to the Ayuthaya period and then check out Wat Pathum Khong Ka, Wat Bang Na, and Wat Phananchoeng as you travel towards the ancient capital. Once you arrive in Ayuthaya, you'll visit Wat Nivet and Bang Pa In, home of the Summer Palace, a complex built by King Prasat Thong in 1632 and formerly used as a summer residence by the kings of Thailand. You'll also have a chance to shop for Thai handicrafts in the district of Bang Sai before boarding the Manohra Song for your final journey towards Bangkok.
Recently voted as the number one destination in the world by the New York Times, Laos, or more accurately Luang Prabang, has finally found its way onto many must visit lists. Although the enigmatic town of Luang Prabang with its temples, golden chedis and French inspired riverside boulevards is arguably the most charming of all southeast Asian cities, Laos, it has to be said, is much more than Luang Prabang.
